In the year 1996, the company's founder, Markus Storz, came across an article that suggested that herbs do not necessarily have to be burned, but rather can be inhaled in a manner that is more gentle by making use of vaporisation as an alternative. This idea inspired Markus Storz to establish the company that would later bear his name. The idea piqued his interest virtually immediately, and he proceeded to build a Hot Air Generator for himself by combining a glass pipe and a hot air gun. During the course of the trial, managing the heat gun construction proved to be an extremely challenging task; yet, the manner in which the heat gun worked immediately convinced him of its validity. Therefore, Markus came to the conclusion that it would be best to devise a device that would simplify its operation.
